Welcome to the fascinating world of Plastic, Aesthetic and Reconstructive Surgery.

When we created this first website, almost 10 years ago, it contained only about 10 percent of the information you see now. Creating a website in the field of Plastic Surgery is a challenging task, with so many developments in the field. We have endeavored to present complete information, in an understandable format with ease of navigation and helpful links within the various web pages. We hope that this website will give you a positive perspective about the world of Plastic Surgery and answer any questions you may have.

It seems that Plastic Surgery is frequently in the news nowadays and has become a frequent topic of conversation among both men and women of all ages. What is driving this interest in Plastic Surgery? It is mostly due to recent advances in the types of procedures available, improvements in materials used in surgery and the refined techniques employed during the surgical procedures. Another driving force is increased accessibility and affordability.

Plastic Surgery was originally known as Reconstructive Surgery. The primary focus was the correction of scars that resulted from accidents, lesions, traumas and post-operative scarring. Reconstructive Surgery is still an important aspect in the domain of Plastic Surgeons but advancements in the field have led to expanded horizons.  In this site you will find information about Reconstructive Surgery as well as the many innovative procedures in Plastic or Aesthetic Surgery.

We prefer Plastic or Aesthetic Surgery to the term Cosmetic Surgery because the word Cosmetic is frequently used by physicians who have not completed formal training in our specialty and therefore are unable to provide the professional excellence that advanced training in Plastic Surgery provides. In Mexico, to become a plastic surgeon one must first study to become a General Physician or a Medical Surgeon. Then he or she must study three or four years of General Surgery and finally three more years of Plastic Surgery before being certified as a Plastic Surgeon.

Each Plastic Surgeon is a skilled practitioner who has achieved mastery in a wide scope of Plastic, Aesthetic and Reconstructive Surgeries based on years of training and practice.  Safety is the most important commitment to our patients. For example, if a Plastic Surgeon feels that a procedure is beyond his or her level of expertise, you will be referred to one who sub-specializes in that particular procedure.

More than ever, we are proud of our Professional and Academic heritage and the strides taken in the artistic quality of our specialty. At the Mexican Association of Plastic, Aesthetic and Reconstructive Surgery, a community of Plastic Surgeons is gathered with a spirit of unity. Please visit www.plasticsurgery.org.mx  for more information about the association and to review the credentials of members in our country.

Our website can almost be viewed as a textbook, or e-book that takes you through the fascinating world of Plastic, Aesthetic and Reconstructive Surgery. In it, you will be exposed to information concerning a variety of topics that you will find helpful as you explore the world of Plastic Surgery. These include such things as: What is Plastic Surgery, Myths and Realities, How to Choose a Plastic Surgeon, Skin Types, Financial and Money Issues, Fashion and Plastic Surgery, Emotions and Plastic Surgeryand much more.
